Geeknet sites include Slashdot ("News for Nerds"), SourceForge.net (Open Source software development hosting) and Thinkgeek (purveyor of fine t-shirts and gadgets). As a Systems Administrator on the Geeknet Site Operations team, you will work in a collaborative environment to manage Geeknet's network infrastructure and servers.

Responsibilities:
-
Support the team's cycle of continuous improvement by participating in the team's projects.

Participate in the team's on-call cycle (24x7 coverage by pager, rotating through the team).

Support Geeknet infrastructure and systems on a day-to-day basis, including the deployment of new hardware and software configurations, and on-site management of equipment in Geeknet's datacenters (including one in Chicago); including occasional out-of-hours work.
Required experience:
-
Minimum 3 years Linux systems administration, engineering or security experience.

Basic hardware management and troubleshooting skills.

Experience maintaining and improving professional datacenter environments.

Strong time management, able to stay on task and prioritize.

Strong communication skill, ability to work with geographically-distributed teams by phone, Jabber, and email.

Ideal candidate will also have experience with TCP/IP, load balancing, OS patch deployment on a timely basis, LDAP administration and maintenance, DNS, SMTP, NFS, DHCP, routing, Redhat Kickstart, NAS/SAN storage, network switches, server hardware, physical management of rackmounted equipment; and scripting in bash/sh, Perl, Python.
Position will work from home (with occasional travel) and report to Sr. Director of Site Operations, Geeknet.
