Product Photographer

Job Summary

The ThinkGeek Overlords are in search of a Product Photographer with strong Photoshop skills to showcase our awesome products. On a weekly basis, the photographer will brainstorm, plan, and execute photo shoots as well as retouch images. The candidate we are looking for will know how to tell a story with a photo and make images that will generate buzz.

The product photographer is a part of our Creative Services Team, a small, close-knit group of designers, photographers, videographers, and writers, who take pride in delivering high-quality work on a limited budget. Our work gets wide exposure, regularly appearing in well-known outlets like Gizmodo, CNET, Engadget, Mashable, Family Circle, Men’s Journal, and more!


Produce high volume, high quality product shots that show ThinkGeek products in fun, inspiring, and informative ways.
Plan and shoot lifestyle images utilizing employees and outside models.
Ensure that product photography and composite work is on brand.
Retouch photos and execute composite work for more complex shots.
Support the lead photographer on location shoots and other large projects.


The ideal candidate will be . . .

A Good Photographer

  • A technically proficient photographer with great style  (3 years experience).
  • Creative and skilled at telling a story with a photo.
  • Experienced with studio lighting and photographic problem solving.
  • Capable of emulating specific looks and working in a diverse range of styles.
  • Crazy Photoshop skills. (Experience doing detailed Photoshop cutouts and photo compositing preferred.)
  • Someone who can create quirky and stylish photos that will build the ThinkGeek brand.

Organized and Motivated

  • Keeps photos and life well-organized.
  • Delivers work on time or early. Able to manage tight deadlines.
  • Part superhero: goes above and beyond.
  • Technically proficient: you use keyboard shortcuts, Photoshop Actions, and other tricks to streamline your work.

A Great Person

  • Good people skills--someone who will collaborate well with our buyers, models, and the rest of our creative team.
  • A big picture thinker who cares about how his or her work relates to the rest of the business.
  • Excellent communication skills and willingness to be given creative direction when necessary
  • Someone who will look for new ideas and opportunities for improving how our department works within the company.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Plusses include fashion photography, video shooting and editing experience, knowledge of design and web standards, affinity for internet culture and geek culture, social media, experience with animated GIFs.
